Falcons fly high in final game

Notre Dame tops Trevecca, 76-57

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame defeated Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.), 76-59, as the Falcons closed out their 2012-13 season on Saturday.

Five Falcons finished with double figures in the scoring column, as Notre Dame (11-15) closed out its 12th season in program history. Sophomore Lawrence DeArmond tallied a game-high 18 points. NDC was a plus-16 in rebounding margin and a plus-nine in turnover margin, and a solid Falcon defense held an opponent under 60 points for the first time this season.

The loss for the Falcons (11-15) marks the first time in five years that they've closed out the regular season with a victory, while the loss for the Trojans (10-16) was their fourth in a row on the road.

Notre Dame never trailed in the contest, and established a little momentum early on.  For the first three minutes of the contest, the Trojans stayed well within striking distance, until Notre Dame went on a 10-2 run, to take a 19-10 advantage at the 13:08-mark on Tyree Gaiter's layup.

Both sides went back and forth through the next 10 minutes of the half, and while the Trojans were eventually able to draw as close as four (27-23), that was as close as they would get through the rest of the opening stanza.  NDC went on an 8-2 run for the next three minutes, until Marquise Rudolph hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for TNU, and cut their deficit to seven (35-28) at the break.

Notre Dame never surrendered control through the first three minutes of the second half, as they nailed four out of their first five shots of the half to take a commanding, 45-30 advantage, and never looked back.

TNU was able to bring the Notre Dame lead down to seven (58-48) with 9:08-remaning, but the Falcon defense responded, and held the Trojans without a basket for the next four minutes, and established a 16-point advantage during the TNU drought.

From that point forward, the game was never in question.

In addition to DeArmond's double digit scoring performance, four others, including two seniors (Eric Dummermuth and Cameron Carlin) scored in double figures.  Jarvis Huntley delivered a double-double, with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyree Gaiter added 11 points and five assists.

Carlin closed out his NDC career with a 15 point performance on the strength of a 54.5-percent (6-for-11) shooting exhibition, and Dummermuth ended his incredible career as a Falcon, with 10 points, and eight rebounds.  Dummermuth exits College Road as the school's all time leader in rebounds, and points.
