SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio --The Notre Dame Falcons were defeated Saturday, 79-72, by the Cedarville Yellow Jackets at Murphy Gymnasium.
The Falcons (10-14) suffered only their second home-loss of the calendar year. Cedarville (18-8) managed to split the season series with NDC, avenging an 88-83 overtime defeat at home to the Falcons back on January 19
th.
Notre Dame went into the locker room for halftime trailing Cedarville 40-33, and couldn't slow down Cedarville's offense in the first-half.
Cedarville forward Zimmy Nwogobo dominated the paint, scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting (66.7 percent) and pulled down seven boards in the first-half. Zwogobo's play opened up the perimeter for the Yellow Jackets, who shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from beyond the arc.
The Falcons were cold in the opening stanza, shooting a mere 34.4 percent (11-of-32).
Tyree Gaiter led all scorers with 12 points, while
Lawrence DeArmond added eight points and four rebounds in the opening half.
After trailing 45-37, Notre Dame went on a 12-2 run to go up 49-47 with 15:57 remaining.
Eric Dummermuth scored 6 points during the run, after being held to just two points in the first half.
The lead was short-lived for the Falcons, as Cedarville regained the lead at 50-49 a minute later and never looked back.
Notre Dame just couldn't find the hoop. The Falcons shot just 37.2-percent from the field (22-of-59). The Falcons were however, efficient at free throw line, sinking 23-of-25 (92.0-percent) foul shots.
The Yellow Jackets continued their hot shooting from the first-half and finished the game shooting 52.7-percent (29-of-55) and 47.3-percent (9-of-19) from long range.
Dummermuth led the Falcons with 19 points and nine rebounds. The senior forward went 8-for-9 (88.9 percent) from the charity stripe.
Tyree Gaiter (18 points),
Jarvis Huntley (13 points) and
Lawrence DeArmond (12 points) each reached double-figures for Notre Dame.
Zimmy Nwogobo paced the Yellow Jackets with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Notre Dame will look to bounce-back against Ohio Dominican in Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
