SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame College women's basketball claimed their third victory in seven days at Murphy Gymnasium with an 81-70 win over the Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit.
The Falcons (5-1) used big runs at the start of both the first and second halves to stay ahead of the Cardinals. The Falcons started the game with a 10-0 run before Wheeling fought back to take a 20-18 lead at the 8:59 mark. This would be Wheeling's only lead of the game. The Falcons would claim a 40-36 halftime lead, with 30 of their 40 point coming from three-point range, shooting 10-15.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Falcons going on an 8-0 run to take a 48-36 lead. The Falcons would maintain this lead throughout the second half to secure an 81-70 victory.
The Falcons were led in scoring by
Martha Nagbe who had a game-high 30 points. Joining Nagbe in double digits were Lauren Langender and
Molly Ritz who had 12 and 10 points respectively. Ritz and Langenderfer also led the Falcons in rebounds with 9 and 7 rebounds respectively.
Courtney Clark had 6 steals for the Falcons as they scored 28 points off of turnovers.
Wheeling Jesuit were led by Taneka Lewis who had 19 points. Jaila Bryant added 17 points for the Cardinals and Kylie Frizell completed the double digit scoring with 11 points.
Notre Dame held a 39-32 advantage in rebounds and shot 50 percent (14-28) from three point range.
With the win the Falcons move to 3-1 in the MEC and remain unbeaten at home, 4-0.
The Falcons now have a week off before traveling to Ohio University to take Bobcats at 11 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 14.
