SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame College women's basketball handed West Liberty their first Mountain East Conference loss of the season, recording a 85-76 victory over the Hilltoppers on Thursday night at Murphy Gymnasium.
The Falcons (4-1) used 34 second half free throw attempts to pull away from West Liberty in the second half. The first half was a back and forth affair that ended tied at 35-35 after
Courtney Clark hit a three-pointer to finish the half.
The Falcons used a run of 16 unanswered points at the start of the second half to take a 53-40 lead with 14:01 on the clock. The Falcons would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game to secure a 85-76 victory.
The Falcons were led in scoring by
Martha Nagbe who had a game-high 27 points.
Erin Entinghe produced her best performance of the season so far to record a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Molly Ritz and
Courtney Clark also reached double digits for the Falcons scoring 15 and 13 points respectively.
West Liberty was led by Liz Flowers who had 23 points. Kierra Simpson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Notre Dame held the advantage in in rebounds, 44-42. The Falcons shot 41 percent from the field while West Liberty connected on 39 percent of its field goals. The Falcons also held the advantage from three point range shooting 41 percent compared to West liberty's 39 percent. The Falcons held their most notable advantage at the free throw line shooting 31-42 compared to West Liberty's 11-13.
With the win the Falcons move to 2-1 in the MEC and remain unbeaten at home, 3-0.
The Falcons will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Wheeling Jesuit at Murphy Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m.
