No. 15 Findlay uses big second half to beat NDC

Box Score
FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons dropped a tough road tilt on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 15 Findlay, 114-82.

The loss was Notre Dame's (3-7) first in two weeks, and their third against a ranked opponent this season, while the victory for the Oilers (6-1) was their third in a row and their fourth in as many games at home this season.

Lawrence DeArmond produced NDC's only offense in the early stages of the game, which were dominated by the Oilers.  DeArmond hit a pair of 3-pointers over the first four and a half  minutes of the contest, but those six points were all the Falcons scored, while the Oilers scored 16, to take a 16-6 advantage.

Notre Dame did battle back, clawing their way back into the contest and trailed by six (25-19), after Jarvis Huntley buried a 3-ball at the 12:18-mark, but Findlay caught fire again, and maintained a double digit lead through most of the final 12 minutes of the opening half.

Findlay took a commanding, 16-point (50-34) lead with 3:27 left in the half, before NDC closed out the opening stanza on a 10-3 run, to bring the deficit back down to single digits.  DeArmond scored the final six points of the half for NDC, and ended the half with 16 points.

While the Oilers shot the lights out, shooting 54.2-percent (19-for35) from the floor, and 42.8-percent (6-fo-14) from 3-point land, the Falcons forced 11 Findlay turnovers, and turned those into 13 points to stay within striking distance.  NDC also collected nine offensive rebounds, while shooting 42.8-percent (18-for-42) from the floor and 25.0-percent (3-for-12) from long distance.

The second half did not turn out well for NDC.  The Falcons couldn't take the lid off the basket, shooting just 35.7-percent (15-for-42) in the second stanza, while Findlay shot the lights out again, hitting on 57.1-percent (20-for-35) of their shots from the floor.  The Oilers led by as many as 40, as they cruised to a victory in the second half.

DeArmond led the way for the Falcons with 23 points on the afternoon, with five rebounds and a pair of assists.  Geovonte Rose led the Falcons with eight rebounds, and added 14 points, while Tyree Gaiter contributed with 12 points and a pair of assists.

The Falcons will not return to action again until Saturday, Jan. 4, when they play host to Shepherd (W.Va.) for a Mountain East Conference tilt at Murphy Gymnasium.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
