Women's Basketball Down Bluefield 67-59

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame College women's basketball continued their strong start to the season with a 67-59 win over the Bluefield College Rams on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game at Murphy Gymnasium.

The Falcons (3-1) were led by Martha Nagbe who had a game-high 19 points and 7 rebounds. Molly Ritz had 11 points and 6 rebounds while Courtney Clark had a game-high 5 assists and 10 points. Katie Stumphauzer completed the double digit scoring for the Falcons with 10 points.

Bluefield College was led by Tega McNeal who had 14 points. Asia Wheeler also chipped in with 11 points and a game-high 9 rebounds for the Rams.

Notre Dame shot 39 percent from the field while Bluefield connected on 43 percent of its field goals. The Falcons scored 23 points off turnovers in the game and had 19 points from the bench.

The first half was close throughout with the Falcons holding 28-26 advantage at the half thanks to 15 turnovers.  

The Falcons were able to push their lead out to 44-36 at the 10:51 mark of the second half, before Bluefield went on an 8 point run to tie the game 44-44 with 9:25 remaining. The Falcons would respond and established a 53-28 lead with 5:47 remaining which they would not relinquish. The Falcons hit key free throws down the stretch to close out the game, shooting 11-16 from the line in the second half tosecure a 67-59 victory.

The Falcons will return to action on Thursday evening when they take on West Liberty at Murphy Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
