Falcons lose late lead in 93-86 loss to Fayetteville State

Box Score
WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- The Notre Dame Falcons erased a five point halftime deficit on Saturday evening, but saw late lead disappear, in a 93-86 loss to Fayetteville State.

The Falcons (0-2) trailed, 46-41 halfway through the contest, but caught fire in the second half, where they shot 55.6-percent (20-for-36) to get back into the contest, but fell seven points short.  The Broncos (1-1) avenged a loss the night before against Concord with the victory.

Notre Dame controlled the early portion of the contest, and led by as many as eight (17-9) just six minutes into the game, before the Broncos caught fire and fought their way back into the contest.

FSU took their first lead of the game just 10 minutes in, and never trailed through the remainder of the first half.  The Broncos 54.5-percent (18-for-33) in the opening stanza, while hitting 88.9-percent (8-for-9) from the charity stripe, to take a 45-41 lead into the half.

The second half was a different story, as both sides traded blows early on, and saw the lead change hands several times.  Notre Dame had led by one on several occasions, and with 4:10 remaining, Kalomo Figueroa-Jackson gave them an 82-79 lead on a 3-ball.

Notre Dame was able to maintain a three-point advantage with just under three minutes left, after Lawrence DeArmond's layup at the 2:57-mark to give NDC an 84-81 lead, but the Broncos closed out the contest on an incredible, 12-2 run to secure the victory.

"We produced a very good team effort tonight, but came up just short," said Head Coach Tim Koenig.  "They executed better than we did down the stretch, but as we continue to play together, we will be unselfish, and continue to get better."

Jarvis Huntley and Tyree Gaiter led the way for Notre Dame offensively, with 24 points each, while DeArmond added 20 points in just 18 minutes of action.  DeArmond scored 45 points in the tournament, and was named to the All Tournament Team.  Figueroa-Jackson had a big day as well with 10 points to go along with 10 assists.

The Falcons are in action again on Saturday, Nov. 17, when they hit the road against Indiana (Pa.).  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
