SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame College women's basketball opened their season with a convincing home win over the Trailblazers from Ohio Christian at Murphy Gymnasium.
The Falcons start the season 1-0 for the first time since 2009. OCU moves to 2-6 on the season.
NDC shot well from the floor in their first outing posting 45.6 field goal percentage. On defense the Falcons limited OCU to 22.9 percent from the field. In addition NDC dominated the board outrebounding OCU 64-36.
Martha Nagbe, returning from a year out with injury, paced the Falcons in the first half shooting 50 percent from the field and scoring 13 point. Nagbe would finish the game with a game high 18 points as well as 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
At the half the Falcons led the Trailblazers 39-23. An 11-2 run to start, in just under 5 minutes, to start the second half gave the Falcons a comfortable lead at 50-25, which they continued to grow throughout the second half. Finishing the game with a 90-48 victory.
The Falcons used their bench wisely throughout the second half with freshmen Tori McDuffie contributing 7 points and the bench contributing 45 point in total.
The Trailblazers were led by Shekina Alexander with 11 points and Asia Woodson with 9 points.
The Falcons dominant performance on the boards was led by
Lauren Langenderfer who had 14 rebounds, Erin Enthinghe had 8 rebounds and 14 points and
Molly Ritz had 10 rebounds.
The Falcons will return to the court when they travel to Concord University on Saturday Nov. 23 to play their first Mountain East Conference game.
