Box Score
WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- Notre Dame snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday and did so in style, topping a Central State team that came into the game having won 11-of-13 games this season.
Lauren Macer and
Molly Ritz both scored career highs on a night that saw the Falcons score a season-high 88 points in an 88-84 victory. Macer scored 34 points and Ritz added 26, as Notre Dame (3-11) won for the first time since Dec. 1.
Central State (11-3) headed into Tuesday's game on its own streak, a winning one that had seen the Marauders win four straight. Their loss at home marked only their second of the season, and for NDC the victory marked the Falcons first on the road since Nov. 19.
Notre Dame had one of its best starts to a game this season, as the Falcons outscored the host Maurauders, 11-4, over the first six minutes of action. NDC hit several 3-pointers in the early going and ran its lead to 12 (23-11) by the mid-point of the half.
The Falcons would lead by as many as 16 later in the first, but a late rally brought CSU to within five (39-34).
Macer, Ritz and
Danielle Ledrich led a surge early in the second that extended the Falcon lead to 51-36 by the 16:23-mark. Central State then went on an 11-3 run to get within seven. That stretch, though, was countered by a Macer trey and two NDC layups that built the visitors' advantage back to 14 (61-47).
CSU then went six for their next seven in cutting its deficit to a mere five points. That point came with 8:43 remaining on the clock. Notre Dame then held sway for the next five minutes of game play, but by the 2:55-mark, Central State was once again within two scores, down, 76-72.
The final three minutes boiled down to NDC getting to the free-throw line and getting the job: the Falcons shot 85.7 percent (18-of-21) from the line for the game. That performance closed out the victory for the Falcons.
Notre Dame's inside game was impressive -- the Falcons scored over half of their season-best 88 points on baskets in the paint, and they out-rebounded the Marauders, 52-41.
Ritz had a game-high and personal-best 14 boards on the evening. Her 26 points were compiled on the strength of an 11-of-20 night shooting from the floor.
Macer had eight rebounds in the game. She went 10-of-20 from the floor, 4-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc and 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. Her 34 points tie the most for a Notre Dame player in a single game over the last seven seasons.
Central State was led by Tanja Beasley, who recorded a double-double made of 21 points and 13 rebounds.
For Notre Dame the game marked the front half of two contests on back-to-back days in Wilberforce, Ohio. NDC is slated to play the Bulldogs of Wilberforce University on Wednesday.
For Head Coach
Katie Hine and the Falcons, they will look to make that game No. 2 in a new streak.
