Balanced effort leads to fifth straight victory

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Four Falcons tallied double-digit scoring totals as Notre Dame defeated Urbana, 69-62, to claim its fifth consecutive win on Saturday.
.
Molly Ritz notched a double-double on the afternoon, notching 15 points and 12 rebounds, and the Falcons (7-11) evened their home record on the season at 3-3.  Notre Dame continued a hot run at the free-throw line, going 27-of-31 (87.1 percent) in extending its win streak to a season-best five games.

Urbana (9-12) went just 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) from the line and 3-of-21 (14.3 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.

Lauren Macer (14 points), Katie Stumphauzer  (11) and Danielle Ledrich (10) were Notre Dame's other four players in double figures.

Urbana opened the game strongly, scoring the first eight points of the contest. NDC answered in a big way, going on a 16-4 run to go up, 19-12, with 9:50 remaining in the first-half.

The rest of the first stanza was a seesaw battle for the most part, and halftime arrived with the Falcons up by four, 36-32.

Notre Dame was dominant on the boards and at the line in the first.  NDC out-rebounded Urbana, 25-15, and went a remarkable 15-of-17 at the charity stripe.  Free throws provided a big swing in the first, with Urbana going just 6-of-15.

In the second half, the Falcons extended their lead to 11 (43-32) by the 16:30-mark.  By the midpoint of the second stanza, the Knights had fought their way back into a five-point game, with NDC up, 48-43.  Urbana took advantage of shaky Falcon shooting and a spate of turnovers in whittling its deficit to one (52-51) by the 7:21-mark.  Notre Dame made just four of its first 14 attempts from the floor in the second.

The Falcons then shored up their ball-handling issues, and when Lauren Macer hit a runner in the lane at 3:25, NDC found itself up by six (63-57).  Urbana would only get as close as five the rest of the way.

For the game, the Blue Knights were led by Ciara Geiger and Kennedy Boggs who each scored 15 points. Geiger added five assists and five steals.

Ritz went 5-of-9 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 at the line in piling up her 15 points. The sophomore from Cambridge, Ohio, also stuffed the stat sheet with two blocks, four steals and three assists.  Five of Ritz' 12 boards came on the offensive glass.

Saturday's game marked the 12th all-time meeting between the Falcons and Blue Knights and the first of two this season between the future Mountain East Conference foes.  NDC and UU played each other three times in 2011-12, with Urbana winning two of those contests.  With Saturday's result, the Blue Knights lead the all-time series, 7-4.

Notre Dame will now be on the road for a pair of games.  The Falcons will play the front half of that pair on Thursday, when they visit Salem International (W. Va.).  Tip-off in that tilt is slated for 6:30 p.m.
