Falcons go fourth

Win streak extended with 77-65 victory at Cedarville

Box Score
CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Lauren Macer led a group of five Falcons tallying double-digit scoring totals, as Notre Dame upset Cedarville, 77-65, on Saturday afternoon.

Macer scored 19 points in a game that saw the Falcons (6-11) surprise a Lady Jackets squad that came into the contest with an 11-5 mark and riding a three-game win streak.  Courtney Clark (12 points), Danielle Ledrich (17), Molly Ritz (13) and Stumphauzer (12) combined with Macer to lead an NDC offense in producing 77 points, mostly on nice performances at the foul line and from beyond the 3-point arc.

With the victory, the Falcons have now won four straight games.

In Saturday's contest -- the first of two this season between NDC and CU -- the Falcons outscored the Lady Jackets, 42-27, in the second half.  A staunch Falcon defense held Cedarville to a 10-of-36 (27.8 percent) shooting mark in the second half.  Notre Dame capitalized, going 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) in the second, overcoming a three-point halftime deficit.

The visiting Falcons started off the game by falling behind, 7-3.  Ritz led NDC back with a couple buckets in part of a 7-0 run to vault the Falcons into the lead.

The rest of the first would be a see-saw affair, complete with six tie scores.  The Lady Jackets went into the break on a 9-5 run, but that halftime break seemed to be perfect timing for Notre Dame.  The Falcons came out of halftime with a strong 14-5 run, a stretch that put them up, 49-43, by the 11:43-mark.

Notre Dame extended its lead to as many as nine before a run by Cedarville got the home side back into the game.  When Kayla Jenerette hit a pair of free throws at 4:31, the Lady Jackets found themselves down just two, 64-62.

With a jumper from Danielle Ledrich and two free throws from Lauren Macer, Notre Dame scored the next four points of the game.  Cedarville would get no closer than four points the rest of the way, and the Falcons closed out the game with a 7-0 run to earn the final 77-65 win.

Ledrich led the perimeter corps in the contest.  She went 4-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc.  Macer scored over half of her 19 points on uncontested 15-footers -- she was 10-of-12 at the line.  Ritz went 6-of-11 from the field and her 13 points were the front half of a double-double.  Ritz grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, as the Falcons out-boarded a foe for a fourth straight game (43-41).

Courtney Clark score three buckets (12 points) in the game and assisted on six.

Jenerette had 17 points to lead Cedarville.

The two teams are slated to meet again -- in South Euclid -- on Feb. 23.  Saturday's victory marked just the third time Notre Dame has defeated Cedarville.  The Lady Jackets had been 11-2 all-time against NDC prior to Saturday's Falcon win.

Notre Dame will look to continue what is now a four-game win streak next Saturday (Jan. 26), and that contest will come at home, with the Falcons hosting Urbana (2 p.m.).
