WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- Notre Dame fell, 96-82, to a Central State Marauder team that shot a blistering 60 percent from the field on Thursday evening.
The Falcons (4-10) were a costly minus-eight in turnover margin in a game that saw the Marauders (10-5) go 40-of-67 (59.7 percent) from the floor. For NDC, the loss snaps a two-game win streak.
The sharp shooting began early on for the Marauders, who hit 61.8-percent (21) of their 34 first half shots, and led by as many as 15 (51-36) in the first half.
In the early goings, both sides continuously traded baskets and had no problems scoring. The Falcons remained well within striking distance, and trailed five (32-27) at the 8:49-mark after
Tyree Gaiter's jumper.
However, the Marauders responded with a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to push their lead into double digits, and maintained a double digit lead through most of the remainder of the half. CSU led 51-40 at the break.
CSU opened the second half on a 17-4 run over the first five minutes, to take a commanding, 68-44 lead, and they would never look back.
The Falcons were able to chip away at the lead slowly, and with just over three minutes left in the contest, got back within 10 (86-76) on
Eric Dummermuth's jumper, but they could not draw any closer.
Dummermuth delivered his seventh double-double of the season, with 22 points and 12 boards, while
Lawrence DeArmond secured a double-double as well with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Gaiter added 10 points to go along with four assists.
The Falcons will be in action again on Saturday, Jan. 19, when they head to Cedarville, Ohio, to take on the Yellow Jackets. The contest is scheduled to tip at 4 p.m.
