NDC earns 'W' in OT

Box Score
WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- Notre Dame pulled of a Wilberforce doubleheader sweep of sorts with 78-74 double-overtime victory over the Wilberforce Bulldogs on Wednesday.

NDC battled back from a seven-point deficit in the game's first overtime period, and the visitors prevailed, in part, due to a fine effort at the free-throw line for a second straight game.

With the win the Falcons (4-11) leave Wilberforce with a pair of victories in tow: NDC downed Central State, 88-84, on Tuesday.  In that contest, Lauren Macer went 10-for-10 from the line en route to a career-best 34-point game.

On Wednesday at Wilberforce (4-16), it was Macer who once again paced the offense and primarily with her ability to create offense on drives through the paint.  The senior guard went 14-of-16 from the foul line in leading NDC with 22 points in the game.

After trailing by five (32-27) at halftime, Notre Dame had an opportunity to win the game at the end of regulation, but the Falcons missed on two field-goal attempts in the final possession of the first 40 minutes.

With a score knotted at 58-58, the contest went into overtime, and the host Bulldogs looked to have things well in hand as that extra session played itself out.    WU worked its way to a seven-point edge with just one minute remaining in that overtime, but Macer, Katie Stumhauzer and Alexa Tropiano made solid plays on offense to cut into the Bulldogs' lead.

With 10 seconds remaining in overtime No. 1 and with the Falcons down, 69-66, Macer was hacked on an unsuccessful 3-point attempt.  That sent NDC's leading scorer to the line with a chance to tie the game, and tie the game she did with a 3-for-3 triple.

The two teams traded buckets in the second overtime until Macer and Stumphauzer gained some momentum for the NDC offense on multiple possessions by continuing to drive to the bucket and knock down free throws.  The game ended with Macer hitting two free throws to extend the Falcon lead to two possessions (four points) with just five seconds remaining on the clock.

Notre Dame closed out the game with that four-point advantage, thus sweeping their two games in Wilberforce and sweeping the season series from the Bulldogs.  NDC downed WU, 87-58, in South Euclid, Ohio, on Dec. 1.

In Wednesday's overtime contest, the Falcons struggled in shooting from the floor.  The Blue & White went just 26-of-90 (28.9 percent) from the field, and that included an 0-for-14 performance from 3-point land.

The Falcons were dialed in at the line, though, getting to the line 35 times and making 74.3 percent (26) of those attempts.  With Wednesday's performance, NDC is now 53-of-65 (81.5 percent) at the line over its last three games.

Lauren Macer notched her 22 points despite going 4-of-19 from the field and 0-for-6 from beyond the arc.  She also had 10 rebounds and three assists in the game.

Erin Entinghe had a double-double, with 10 points and 12 boards.  Five of Entinghe's rebounds came on the offensive glass.  Katie Stumphauzer added 11 points and six rebounds.  Molly Ritz had 10 and seven, and Danielle Ledrich had eight and seven.
