Notre Dame falls to Cedarville, 65-60

Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- A hot-shooting visiting five from Cedarville jumped out to an early lead and prevailed over Notre Dame, 65-60, on Saturday afternoon.  (Box)

The Lady Jackets shot 57 percent from the field in the first half and a robust 61.6 percent (8-of-13) from 3-point range for the game, as they defeated NDC on the Falcons' home court.

For Notre Dame (10-11), the loss snaps a three-game win streak.  The Falcons are now 2-4 at home this season.

With the victory, Cedarville (13-7) has won five of its last six overall and four of its last five away from the Callan Athletic Center. 

CU's Cara Cayton, Kayla Jenerette and Raegan Ryan each tallied 12 points in the winning effort.  Cayton the Lady Jacket's fifth all-time three point scorer nailed 2-of-3 from behind the arc as three Lady Jackets made at least two threes. 

Martha Nagbe tallied a game-high 15 points and six rebounds to lead three Falcons in double figures in the loss. Lauren Macer and Tiffany Adkins contributed 11 points each. Adkins a redshirt freshman pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to go along with three assists, three steals, and two blocks. 

The Lady Jackets went 9-of-13 from the floor in opening up a 29-21 lead by the 7:23-mark in the first half.  Cedarville wound up shooting 57.1 percent (16-of-28) in the first, and that included an 8-for-11 performance from beyond the 3-point arc.

After making eight threes in the opening 20 minutes Cedarville's hot shooting cooled off as the visitors took just two shots from deep in the second half.

Adkins and senior Alex Dackin provided a spark for the NDC offense as the duo combined to score 10 of the Falcons' first 12 points in the second frame, and Notre Dame got to within four (47-43) by the 13:22-mark.   That run would eventually work the Falcons into a tie and then the lead, with the NDC defense leading the way in the comeback.  At one point, Notre Dame scored seven straight points.

After battling into the lead the Falcons struggled to maintain their high level as they went From the 4:03-mark on, NDC strung together nothing but missed shots and turnovers.

The game marked the second meeting this season between Notre Dame and Cedarville.  The Lady Jackets downed the Falcons, 80-73, in Cedarville, Ohio, on Jan. 14.  CU has now won 11-of-13 all-time meetings between the two programs. Last season the Falcons traveled to Cedarville and defeated then NAIA No. 16, 61-59 on Feb. 19, 2011.

Saturday's game marked the first in a stretch that has the Falcons playing four-of-five at home.  Notre Dame will continue that stretch of mostly-home games with a Murphy Gymnasium tilt against Walsh on Feb. 9.
