Notre Dame sweeps Malone, 55-45

Falcons force Pioneers into 25 turnovers

The victory for the Falcons (12-11) was their second in a row, and gives five wins in the last six games. The win also gives Notre Dame its eighth straight victory over the Pioneers.
 
The loss for the Pioneers (11-13) marks their second straight while dropping four of its last six – two of those losses coming at the hands of the Falcons.  
 
On an afternoon where the Falcons had a hard time finding their offensive grove shooting 34.4 percent (21-of-61) from the floor and 42.9 percent (6-for-14) from the foul line, Notre Dame used its high-pressure defense to force the Pioneers into 25 turnovers.
 
Danielle Ledrich scored a game-high 13 points and Alex Dackin provided 12 points as the lone Falcons in double figures. Freshman Martha Nagbe was held to single digits for just the fifth time in 23 contests. The team's leading scorer was limited to just four points on 2-of-10 shooting but collected a team-high eight rebounds, collected five steals, and handed out three assists. Fellow freshman Tiffany Adkins collected seven rebounds and provided five points.
 
Sydnee Penn tied Ledrich for the game-high of 13 points while grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds and Caitlin Sharp scored 12 points in the losing effort for Malone.
 
Notre Dame struggled in the early going falling behind 4-0 as they missed their first six shots.
 
Ledrich opened the Falcons scoring at the 15:27 mark and a steal and layup by Nagbe drew the game level at 15:13.
 
Ledrich capped a 6-0 run that gave NDC a 6-4 lead when she converted a pair of free throws following a miss by Sarah Bardall for the Pioneers.
 
Bardall converted a jumper following an offensive rebound to tie the game 6-6 at the 14:15 mark of the opening half.
 
Freshman Megan Scarberry netted a 3-pointer to cap a 5-0 run that give the visitors an 18-8 lead with 8:21 remaining till the halftime break.
 
For the freshman from Loudenville, Ohio, who came into the week, averaging 20 percent (2-of-10) from behind the 3-point arc and just 1.1 points per game she secured her second straight multiple triple game. In those games the 5-foot-6 guard is averaging 8 points per game while shooting 46 percent (6-of-13) from the floor and 40 percent (4-of-10) from three-point land.
 
In a half that featured two ties and a lead change the Falcons surged into control before 9-0 run by the Pioneers trimmed the lead to one with less than a minute to go.
 
Ledrich pulled up for a jumper with 26 seconds remaining in the half to give NDC a 22-19 lead going into the locker room.
 
Scarberry, Brittany Reddy, and Molly Ritz combined for nine points as the Falcons reserves outscored its counterparts 9-2 through the opening 20.
 
Notre Dame opened the second half missing their first three shots before opening a 37-23 lead with 12:05 remaining.
 
The Falcons expanded its lead to 16 when Katie Stumphauzer and Lauren Macer nailed back-to-back 3-pointers giving the visitors a 48-32 lead.
 
Sydnee Penn made a layup with 1:07 remaining to trim the Falcons lead to 54-45 marking the final basket of the game.
 
Selana Reale's foul with nine second remaining sent Lauren Macer to the foul line where she made 1-of-2 to give Notre Dame a 55-45 victory.
