Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons dropped their second road game of the season on Monday evening, as they fell to No. 13 (NCAA D-II) Findlay, 86-58, at Croy Gymnasium.
Notre Dame (1-3) has now lost three in a row since winning their opener against Wesminster, while the victory for Findlay (2-1) was their second in a row, and improves their record to 3-0 all time against the Falcons.
The Falcons did a nice job defensively, holding the Oilers to a 34.7-percent (26-for-75) clip from the floor, but the Oilers capitalized on their second chance opportunities. Findlay grabbed 34 offensive rebounds, which produced 30 second chance points.
The contest was controlled by the Oilers from the beginning. Both teams struggled offensively at the beginning, and NDC took their lone lead of the contest, 2-1 just two and a half minutes in on a layup from
Geovonte Rose. However, Findlay responded quickly and found their stride. The Oilers were up, 16-4, at the 13:32-mark, and never lost control.
The Oilers led by double digits the rest of the way. In the opening half, they shot just 41.7-percent (15-for-36) from the floor, but still held a 51-27 advantage.
The shots did not fall for NDC in the opening half, as they hit on 37.9-percent (11-for-29) of their shots from the floor in the opening stanza.
Things didn't get much easier for Notre Dame in the second half, as the Oilers outscored them, 35-31. The Falcons did step up defensively in the second stanza, holding the Oilers to a 28.2-percent (11-for-39) shooting performance.
On the evening, Findlay got to the free throw line 30 times, while the Falcons took just 14 shots from the charity stripe. In addition, the Oilers out-rebounded the Falcons, 55-36.
In the loss,
Eric Dummermuth turned in his fourth consecutive double-double. The senior from Dover, Ohio, was the only Falcon to register a double digit scoring performance, with 10 points on the night to go along with 11 rebounds.
Notre Dame received 38 points from their bench, including 18 from
Dylan Hickoff and
Jarvis Huntley combined. They both scored nine on the evening. Hickoff added six rebounds and a pair of steals, while Huntley had two blocks and an assist.
"It was a complete lack of effort on our behalf tonight," said Head Coach Kevin Bille. "You play how you practice, and thats sometihng we must correct moving forward."
The Falcons will be in action again on Saturday, Dec. 1, when they square off against Hiram at Murphy Gymnasium. The contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tilt.
