SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame lost to Findlay by a final score of 90-65 on Wednesday evening.
The Oilers (2-0) shot 66.7 percent (16-of-24) in a 49-point second half as they hit the 90-point mark for a second straight game. Notre Dame (1-4) fell to 1-1 at home with the pre-Thanksgiving loss at Murphy Gymnasium.
Notre Dame had a strong start, hitting 50 percent of its shots in opening a 13-11 lead through the first six minutes of action. A balanced offense and a swarming defense pushed the Falcons out to an eventual 17-11 lead, but the Oilers countered with a 6-0 run to claim an 18-17 lead by the 10:30-mark.
A spurt late in the half put the visitors up seven (33-26) by the four-minute mark. Notre Dame got within three when
Lauren Macer hit a trey at 3:26, but UF closed with a 9-2 run to take a 41-32 lead into halftime.
When the second half got underway, Notre Dame kept Findlay off the scoreboard for nearly three minutes, but then the Oilers got things going. UF went on a 12-5 run to widen its lead. By the midpoint of the half, Findlay found itself up 18 (67-48).
Senior Kayla Brown was dialed in over the final 20 minutes of play, and she figured as a big key to the Oilers extending their lead. Brown made seven field goals in the second half en route to scoring 29 points for the game.
Findlay's offense efficiently ran the game to its 90-65 conclusion. The Oilers missed just eight shots in the second half.
For the game, UF shot 54.9 percent (28-of-51) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Oilers out-rebounded Notre Dame, 40-29.
NDC shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field. The Falcons' high scorer was
Lauren Macer, who totaled 16 points on a 4-of-14 shooting performance. Macer also had four assists on the night.
Other notable performances for NDC included
Erin Entinghe (nine points),
Danielle Ledrich (11 points) and
Molly Ritz (five rebounds, two steals).
Brown's 29 points were backed up by Tai Dotson's 12. Margaret Wuebker garnered a game-high seven boards. Brown came up with a game-high five steals.
Findlay has now scored 181 points over two games -- the Oilers defeated Ursuline, 91-49, in their season opener on Nov. 14.
The Oilers now own an 11-2 edge in the all-time series between the two programs who first met in 1990. UF has won seven in a row over the Falcons.
The Falcons will continue what is a busy, six-games-in-12-days stretch when they travel to Evansville, Ind., this weekend. Notre Dame will compete in the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by the University of Southern Indiana. NDC is slated to play games on Saturday and Sunday, with the first of those coming against the host Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (Saturday, 1:30 p.m. ET).
