Falcons defeated by Urbana, 80-73

Reddy and Ledrich’s career days not enough

Box Score URBANA, Ohio – Sophomore Danielle Ledrich and sophomore Brittany Reddy combined for 30 points as the Falcons fell 80-73 to Urbana on Saturday afternoon. (Box)

Ledrich and Reddy came off the bench as the duo helped NDC to a 36-8 advantage in bench points. Ledrich scored a team-high and career-tying 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting including 4-of-4 from behind the 3-point line. Reddy scored 11 first-half points setting a career record. The sophomore guard from Strongsville, Ohio, added two points in the second half – ending with 13 points.
 
Ciara Geiger and Andrea Vogel each scored a game-high 19 points for Urbana (3-8) which won for the first time after a 21 day layoff. Vogel collected a game-high 19 rebounds as the Falcons won the rebounding battle 43-42.
 
Senior Alex Dackin and freshman Martha Nagbe scored 13 and 12 points respectively as the loan starters in double figures. Nagbe collected a team and career-high nine rebounds and provided five assists.
 
Notre Dame opened a 6-0 lead on baskets by Lauren Macer and Ledrich paired with a trip to the charity line by Nagbe.
 
Urbana responded with seven unanswered points to take a 7-5 lead at the 14:11 mark when DeVonyea Johnson made a layup.
 
Ledrich responded with her first of four 3-pointers to give the Falcons the lead back, 9-7.
 
In a half that featured eight ties and nine lead changes Urbana converted a Courtney Clark turnover into a four-point lead at the break.
 
The Blue Knights scored the first four points of the second half to take an eight point lead 43-35 with 19:18 remaining.
 
After nearly two minutes that featured three fouls, four missed shots, and two turnovers Vogel converted a free throw to build the lead back to eight, 48-40 with 15:56 remaining.
 
Urbana built their lead to 14 when Johnson buried a 3-pointer for a 54-40 lead with 15:00 remaining.
 
After head coach Katie Hine called a timeout, Notre Dame responded with a 12-0 run as the Falcons forced Urbana into four turnovers and 0-10 from the floor. Alex Dackin's jumper with 10:00 remaining brought the Falcons within a single possession, 54-52.
 
That would be as close as Notre Dame would get as the Blue Knights built a 14 point lead before holding onto win 80-73.
 
Notre Dame shot 42.6 percent (26-for-61) while Urban made 42.9 percent (27-for-63) from the floor. The Falcons shot well from behind the 3-point line making 42.9 percent (6-of-14) led by Ledrich with a perfect 4-for-4. Urbana shot just 23.5 percent (4-for-17) from deep.
 
Coach Hine had to manage the lineup as Martha Nagbe, Tiffany Adkins, Alex Dackin, and Erin Entinghe picked up four fouls apiece while Courtney Clark and Danielle Ledrich each earned three as the Falcons picked up 25 team fouls.
 
That foul trouble gave Urbana the edge in the game as they made 22-of-30 (73.3 percent) compared to the Falcons 15-of-25 (60 percent). Nagbe made 8-of-10 after starting the game perfect in her first six trips to the line.
 
The Blue Knights made seven more foul shots winning the game by the same margin, 80-73.
 
Notre Dame will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 14 when they travel to Cedarville (8-5) for a 2 p.m. tip against the Lady Jackets.
