Notre Dame outlasts crosstown rivals

Nagbe leads team with her 15th double figure game; 17 points and 7 rebounds

Box Score PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- Behind freshman Martha Nagbe's 17 points and seven rebounds Notre Dame used several large runs to defeat crosstown rivals, Ursuline 72-63 on Saturday afternoon. (Box)

The victory for the Falcons (9-10) was their second in a row, and gives them wins in four out of their last six games. The win also gives Notre Dame the 22nd consecutive win over the Arrows dating back to Dec. 2, 2000.

The loss for the Arrows (6-12) marks their fouth straight under first year head coach Jessica Butzer. 

Nagbe highlighted a trio of Falcons in double figures as Brittany Reddy matched her career-high of 13 points set on Jan. 7 at Urbana and Alex Dacking scored 10 points. 

Laura Campbell scored a game-high 25 points while Brianna Woods provided a game-high 10 assists in the losing effort for Ursuline.
 
Notre Dame jumped out to an 11-0 lead in less than three minutes capped by senior Alex Dackin's layup. The Lima, Ohio, native received a pass from Tiffany Adkins for an easy bucket.
 
After the two teams traded runs Tyler Gassett tied the game 29-29 with 3:17 remaining in the opening period. A pair of foul shots by Katie Cappello gave Ursuline their only lead at the 2:49 mark, 31-29.
 
Over the final two and a half minutes the Falcons turned steals into baskets as the pushed their way back to a 38-31 lead at the break.
 
Through the opening 20 minutes NDC converted 14 Arrows turnovers into 18 points. The Falcons bench led by sophomore Brittany Reddy and her seven first half points outscored their counter parts 13-8.
 
Through the first 90 seconds of the second half the Falcons opened a 10 point lead, 43-33 when Reddy made a steal and converted the chance.
 
Notre Dame built a 14 point lead by the 11:45 mark when Reddy put-back a Tiffany Adkins miss giving the Falcons a 58-44 lead.
 
Ursuline would trim the lead to 58-53 at the 9:11 mark when Cappello made a jumper from the right wing, but that would be the closest the host Arrows would get to NDC.
 
A pair of free throws by Danielle Ledrich started a 9-2 run by the Falcons as they built their lead to 71-57 as the clock ticked towards three minutes.
 
A Tyler Gassett split a pair of foul shots and Laura Campbell sank a 3-pointer to bring Ursuline within nine, 72-63 before the buzzer sounded.
