Notre Dame (17-19, 10-4) needed both victories to tie Point Park (Pa.) at the top of the AMC standings, and they now have a chance to host the AMC post season tournament. The double header sweep of Mount Vernon (7-19, 3-9) was their fourth in a row and their fifth in their last six games.
The Falcons will find out on Monday evening, if they will host the AMC tournament or not. Notre Dame is currently tied with Point Park, at 10-4 in first place in the AMC. On Monday, May 2, Cedarville (8-4) hosts Malone, in a double header which will determine the final seeding for the tournament.
Notre Dame scored the first run of the afternoon in the first inning of game one, as #Christine Kasidonis# extended her hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI double, which scored #Charisse Colston#. Mount Vernon tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, before the Falcons plated a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Colston's triple knocked in the first run, and she scored moments later on a wild pitch.
The Cougars answered quickly by scoring two in the bottom of the sixth inning, to knot things up at 3-3. Both teams failed to score in the seventh, forcing extra innings. #Felisha Jones# walked to begin the top of the eighth inning, and scored the eventual game winning run, on #Mallory Harder#'s double to right center field. #Kim Lennox# (6-3) then worked a perfect eighth inning to seal the deal.
Notre Dame took control early in the second contest, and never looked back. They out-hit Mount Vernon, 13-6 and took advantage of four Cougar errors. NDC plated a trio of runs in the second inning. #Michelle Dykes# began in the frame with a double to right center field, and scored on a single from #Kelli Lennox#. Jones reached on a fielder's choice, and #Nicole Spehar# scored on the process, and #Candace Shofar#'s infield single plated the final run of the inning.
Lennox stepped in with runners on second and third and one out in the third inning, and hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which scored Dykes, to give NDC a 4-0 lead. Notre Dame plated two more in the fourth inning, on back-to-back RBI singles from Harder and Kasidonis. Dykes smashed an RBI double to right field in the sixth inning, and the Falcons scored their final run in the seventh, when #Steph Glueck# scored on a wild pitch.
#Christine Camp# (6-6) earned the victory in game two, allowing just a run on six hits while striking out nine batters as she went the distance for her sixth win of the year. #Kim Lennox#, who earned the victory in game one, was also sharp for NDC, allowing just three runs on nine hits over eight innings.
