Falcons drop two at Blue Knight Invitational

URBANA, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons were defeated twice on Saturday afternoon at the Blue Knight Invitational Tournament, dropping an 11-10 slugfest against Urbana in game one, and then lost 10-0 in five innings against Grand Valley State (Mich.) in game two. (Gm-1 | Gm-2)

Notre Dame (2-12) allowed a big lead to slip away in the first contest, and were never able to get anything going on offense in the second contest. The twin bill marked their first bit of action in over two weeks.

The Falcons developed an early 6-0 lead over the first two and a half innings of their first game against Urbana. Notre Dame scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, when #Christine Kasidonis# roped a bases loaded double to center field, scoring #Candace Shofar# and #Mallory Harder# in the process.

#Felisha Jones# drove in NDC's next run in the top of the second inning on a sacrifice fly which scored #Michelle Dykes#. The Falcons then scored a trio of runs in the top of the third inning. Kasidonis scored the first run after Dykes reached on an error, and #Christine Camp# scored on a wild pitch before #Steph Glueck# singled in the final run of the inning.

It didn't take the Blue Knights long to respond, as they plated seven runs on six hits in the home half of the third to take the lead, which was highlighted by Heather Hakola's grand slam. The Blue Knights added a pair of runs in the fourth inning, and again in the sixth. The Falcons plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Kasidonis came home when Dykes reached on another Urbana error, and Dykes touched home plate on Glueck's double to center field.

Down 11-8 heading into the seventh inning, Notre Dame was able to put a mini rally together. #Charisse Colston# started the inning with her second homerun of the season, and #Alyssa Orgradowczyk# scored after Glueck reached on a fielder's choice. The Falcons has runners on second and third with one down, but were not able to push any runs across after that.

Lauren Anderson (1-2) earned the victory for Urbana in the first game. She allowed four unearned runs on three hits over two and two-thirds innings of relief. Camp (2-4) suffered the loss for Notre Dame in game one after allowing three runs on two hits over an inning of relief.

The Falcons will take the field again on Sunday, March 20, when they finish up at the Blue Knight Invitational. They are scheduled to take on Grand Valley State at noon and Urbana at 2 PM.
