Lake Erie earns victory over Falcons, 96-72

Nagbe and Macer combine for 35 points in the loss

Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Martha Nagbe and Lauren Macer combined for 35 points Sunday evening as Notre Dame fell to Lake Erie, 96-72, in front of 276 fans at the Osborne Center. (Box)
 
The loss drops Notre Dame to 0-4 on the young season while Lake Erie improves to 3-0. It was the second win in the last nine attempts for the Storm against the Falcons.
 
Freshman guard Martha Nagbe came off the Notre Dame bench to lead all Falcons in scoring with a career high 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting and provided five assists.  Junior guard Lauren Macer added 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while sophomore guard Danielle Ledrich provided 11 points and redshirt-freshman forward Tiffany Adkins recorded her first double digit rebound effort (10) to go along with two blocks.
 
The Falcons bench led by Nagbe and Ledrich outscored the Storm reserves 49-26 however, Lake Erie, picked to finish last in the GLIAC South Division, exploded for a 10 point lead (10-0), through the opening four and a half minutes before building their largest lead in the opening 20 minutes to 18 with 17 seconds left in the opening half before Alex Dackin drilled a 3-point basket as time expired to cut the lead to 15 at the break.
 
Lake Erie turned the Falcons 25 turnovers into 26 points and turned their 17 offensive rebounds into 20 second chance points.
 
Alyssa Wagers and Stephanie Rogers led the Storm with a pair of double-doubles as Lake Erie increased their lead through the second half en route to a 96-72 win.
 
 
 
NOTES FROM THE NEST….
 
SERIES HISTORY: The series between the schools is one of longest, the teams first met in the Storm's first season of 1978-79.  Notre Dame has dominated the rivalry, leading 29-9, winning seven of the last nine.
