Four Falcons score in double figures in loss to Hiram

Box Score HIRAM, Ohio -- The Falcon foursome of Brennan Osborn, Marcquice Taylor, Phil Biggs and Troy Baugh scored in double figures on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough, as the Terriers came away, with an 84-73 victory. (Box)

The loss for the Falcons (1-2) was their second in a row since opening the season with a 79-76 overtime victory at home, while the victory for Hiram (2-0), gives them two in a row to start the young season.

Notre Dame played most of the contest without star forward Eric Dummermuth, who was limited to just six minutes of action.  Osborn picked up the slack on the glass in Dummermuth's absence, leading the team with 10 rebounds, marking the first double-double of his collegiate career.

Hiram established an early lead, scoring five out of the game's first seven points.  The Terriers led by as many as six (19-13) in the opening half, but the Falcons came storming back, and took their first lead of the game at the 8:45-mark, after Baugh's steal, which led to a big 3-point bucket from Taylor, providing the Falcons with a 25-23 edge.

The Falcons held on to the lead for most of the half, leading by as many as five (30-25), but lost a little momentum with two seconds remaining in the first half, when Hiram's Branden Means hit a 3-pointer to give the Terriers a 38-37 lead at the break.

Notre Dame scored the first basket of the second stanza to regain the lead, and was able to score six of the first eight points in the second half.  The Falcons maintained that lead for nearly five minutes, until Hiram's Aaron Stefanov hit a 3-pointer at the 15:09-mark, which sparked a 13-0 run.

The 13-0 run gave the Terriers all the momentum they needed, and they never trailed through the duration of the contest.  However, NDC did not go down easily, as they gave the Terriers a scare, as they narrowed the deficit to four, multiple times.

With 5:36 remaining, Notre Dame was down, 69-65, before the Terriers went on an 11-4 run, and took their largest lead of the game, (80-69) with 1:46 to play, to seal the deal.

"We just aren't getting the job done right now, and that falls on my shoulders," said Head Coach Kevin Bille. "We will use this time off over the next 10 days to get better."

The Falcons did a great job of taking care of the ball, turning it over just five times, but struggled at the free throw line, hitting 61.9-percent (13-for-21) of their shots.  NDC shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) from the floor, and 27.3 percent (6-for-22) from beyond the arc.

Biggs and Taylor led the Falcons with 15 points apiece, while Baugh offered a solid effort off the bench, with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Osborn added 11 points to his 10 rebound effort, and nailed five out of six shots from the floor.

NDC is off for the next 10 days, and will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 29.  The Falcons will return to Murphy Gymnasium, and welcome in Washington & Jefferson.  The contest is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m.
