With the twin victories at a cold and windy Campus Field, Notre Dame (16-19, 7-3 AMC) has now won six straight games, with all six being league contests. The Falcons defeated the Lady Cougars with a mix of good pitching, hitting for power and shoddy defense by the visiting nine.
Sophomore first baseman #Mallory Harder# paced the NDC bats on the afternoon. Harder went 4-for-7 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. The sisters Harbarger (Ashley and Meredith) combined to throw 11-1/3 innings of one-run ball over the two wins.
In game one, starter #Christina Hutchison# was shelled for five runs in two-thirds of an inning before being replaced by #Meredith Harbarger#. Down 5-0, the Falcons whittled their way back into the game with a run in the first and three in the second. After MVNU plated a sixth run in the top of the fourth, NDC countered with a pair to tie the score, at 6-6. The Falcons then got two in the fifth and two in the sixth to earn the come-from-behind victory.
Harbarger was solid in relief of Hutchison. She went the rest of the way (6-/13 innings), yielding six hits and three walks while striking out seven. The outing marked her best in over a month. The junior from Akron, Ohio, had been 0-5 with a 10.32 in seven appearances since March 6.
In the second game, it was #Ashley Harbarger#'s turn to earn the Falcons a win with her own bit of solid pitching. The younger of the two sisters breezed through five innings, as Notre Dame clobbered Mount Vernon for four runs in the third and five in the fourth en route to a 9-0, run-rule victory.
Harbarger allowed just five singles over her five frames. She walked none and punched out three. In doing so, the freshman hurler extended what is now a 22-inning scoreless streak.
Offensively, Harbarger helped herself with two hits in the game. #Felisha Jones# and #Christine Kasidonis# also had two hits in the win. #Charisse Colston# and
Mallory Harder each homered in what was the Falcons' fourth shutout win of the week.
