SAVANNAH, Ga. --The Notre Dame Falcons began the day Tuesday with a big 13-0 victory over Edward Waters (Fla.), and then came from behind in their second game of the day, erasing a 3-1 deficit against Brewton Parker College (Ga.), but lost in the bottom of the ninth, 5-4.
#Mallory Harder# had a huge day for Notre Dame, hitting a pair of two-run homers in big spots for the Falcons. The sophomore from Uniontown, Ohio, hit her first two-run blast in the bottom of the third inning in game one to help the Falcons pull away, and her second two-run shot came in the top of the sixth inning in game two, to tie the game at 3-3.
The Falcons (6-2) used a six run, seven hit fourth inning in their first contest to pull away, as they run-ruled Edward Waters, 13-0. The victory was their third over Edward Waters in the Smash Hit Tournament. Notre Dame scored in every inning of their 13-0 victory, and outscored EWU 49-8 in their three games over the last three days.
Notre Dame fell behind early in the second contest, but rallied to tie the game and force extra innings. Harder's homer in the sixth inning knotted the game up at 3-3, and NDC took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning, when #Nicole Spehar# scored on #Gaby Maurer#'s clutch, two-out RBI single. Brewton Parker scored in the next half inning to tie the game at 4-4, and won in the bottom of the ninth, on Leigha Beckum's RBI single.
#Felisha Jones# tallied five hits on the day, going 5-for-6 in both games combined with three runs and an RBI. Spehar caught both games, and went 3-for-8 with four runs scored. #Christina Hutchison# (1-1) tossed a three-hit shutout in the first game to earn the victory. Hutchison issued just one free pass and fanned five batters to secure the win. #Meredith Harbarger# (1-1) was tagged with the loss in game two, allowing five runs on eight hits over eight innings.
The Falcons will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon. They will take on Spring Hill (Ala.) in a double header. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
