Falcons fall in OT, have lost three straight

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- In Notre Dame's last home game, on Jan. 28, the Falcons picked up an impressive win in a 91-82 game against Point Park (Pa.). Since then, NDC is winless in three road games. The most recent of those three defeats came at Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) on Tuesday night. The host Raiders beat the Falcons, 72-66, in overtime.  (Box)

Notre Dame (17-9, 9-4 American Mideast) shot just 34.3 percent (24-for-70) from the field in the loss, and Roberts Wesleyan (14-10, 7-6 AMC) went 4-of-5 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line in the five-minute extra frame. The Raiders are now 4-1 in their last five games and are likely a better team than their 14-10 mark would indicate. RWC has lost seven games by six points or less.

Nevertheless, Tuesday's game was one that Head Coach #Kevin Bille# thought his team could win if they played their game. “Tonight was very disappointing,” said Bille. “We played with no sense of urgency and didn't execute. Those are two things you don't expect from a team in February.”

And with Tuesday's loss, Bille and the Falcons are now 0-3 in the month of February, with losses to Malone, Cedarville and, now, Roberts. Malone stayed close but lost to new NAIA-II No. 1 Walsh, 68-62, on Tuesday, so NDC remains a game-and-a-half ahead of Malone (8-6 in league play) in the AMC North standings.

Roberts could also still figure in the North race. The Raiders have now beaten Malone and Notre Dame in back-to-back games.

#Eric Dummermuth# played 43 minutes in the loss at RWC and posted game-highs in points (25) and rebounds (12). #Al Miller# continued his excellent play of late; he scored 18.

Rashaad Stokelin tallied 16 points, seven boards and four assists for the Raiders, who ran their home record to 8-3. Notre Dame is now under .500, 4-5, on the road.

Notre Dame will be back on their home hardwood for their next game, when the Falcons host Ohio State-Newark at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11.

NOTES FROM THE NEST …

THREE STRIKES: NDC's trio of recent losses mark their first three-game losing streak in AMC play since January of 2009.

SERIES UPDATE: Tuesday's game marks the first win for Roberts in the series since Feb. 14, 2006. Since then, the Falcons had won seven straight in the series with RWC. Notre Dame is now 10-8 against the Raiders; NDC beat RWC, 71-67, in an earlier meeting this season (Jan. 21).
