Falcons outlast first half Storm in win

Notre Dame rebounds to win consolation over Lake Erie

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame (12-4) rebounded in the consolation contest of the NDC Holiday Tournament, defeating NCAA-II Lake Erie (2-8), 79-74 on Friday afternoon. (Box)

In a first half that featured eight lead changes and six ties, Notre Dame trailed by six at the break, (38-44) despite Lake Erie shooting 57.6 percent (19-for-33) from the floor.

The Falcons shot 32.6 percent (19-for-33) from the floor including 16.7 percent (2-for-12) from behind the three point arch. The Blue & White shot 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from the charity stripe. Notre Dame was led by senior forward, #Kealy McNally# with team high eight points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals over 19 minutes of action. The Storm shot 57.6 percent (19-for-33) including 16.7 percent (2-for-12) from three point land. Lake Erie shot 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from the foul line. Stephanie Rogers led the Storm with 10 points six rebounds, and four blocks through the opening 20 minutes.

After the Lakers extended their lead to seven (46-53), the Falcons responded with an 8-0 run for their first lead of the second half (54-53) at the 13:54 mark. Lake Erie would pull back into the lead 57-58, on Sarah Wojciechowski's 3-pointer with 11:19 remaining. After a 7-0 by the Blue & White put the Falcons back into the lead by five, (63-58) with 9:34 left. Laker's Jodie Jindra hit a jumper tying the game at 71-71 with 3:16 left in the contest. The Falcons would outscore the Lakers 8-2 over the final two minutes to pull away for their 79-74 win.

For the game, Notre Dame shot 36.8 percent (28-for-76) from the floor, including 27.3 percent (6-for-22) from three. NDC completed 65.4 percent (17-for-26) from the foul line. After shooting near 60 percent in the opening 20 minutes, the Falcons limited the Lakers to 28.6 percent (10-for-35) in the second half. For the game Lake Erie completed 42.6 percent (29-for-68) from the field, including 20 percent (4-for-20) from downtown. The Lakers completed 70.6 percent (12-for-17) from the foul line.

Coach Dick Deasy had 10 players get into the scoring column. #Yvette Hunter# provided her second double-double of the season with a team high 21 points and 12 rebounds, #Kealy McNally# added her fifth double-double of the season, on 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Lakers were led by Stephanie Rogers with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and eight blocks.

Notre Dame's #Yvette Hunter# (17.5 PPG, 8 RPG), Lake Erie's Jen Caiola (16 PPG, 7 RPG, 1.5 BPG), Point Park's Ashley Henderson (22.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 3.5 SPG), and Shawnee State's Keilee Guthree (9 PPG, 3 RPG), joined the MVP from Shawnee State, Abby Ballman (20 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 4.5 APG) on the All-Tournament Team.
