NDC scored 163.5 team points in the event hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. That was enough to edge Cortland State (N.Y.) which tallied 147.5. Thus the Falcons repeat - NDC also won the 2008 RIT Invitational in similar fashion, picking up five wins.
#Adam Koballa# (141 pounds), #Thomas Straughn# (157), #Kevin Hardy# (165), #Derek Foore# (197) and #Orlando Scales# (HWT) all won championships. Eleven teams competed in the event: Baldwin-Wallace, Case Western Reserve, Cortland State, John Carroll, Morrisville State (N.Y.), Notre Dame , Oswego State (N.Y.), RIT, Thiel (Pa.), Waynesburg (Pa.), and Wesleyan.
Koballa and Straughn, each top-ranked in their weight divisions on the most recent NAIA Coaches' Poll (Nov. 24), both went 4-0 on Saturday. Hardy went 4-0 with three wins by fall, and Scales had two pins as part of his three-win day.
The tournament win marked NDC's second of the season - the Wrestling Falcons also took the title in the season-opening National Catholic Invitational in Erie, Pa., on Nov. 7.
The win sends NDC into a six-day break before the team travels downtown for their next event, the Dec. 12 Cleveland State Open.
