WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Notre Dame lost for just the second time this season Saturday, as Missouri Baptist dropped the Falcons, 70-63. The loss came in day-two of Grace College's (Ind.) Optimist Tournament, and it closes out a four-game road streak for NDC. The Falcons went 2-2 on the swing; they'll play their first December home game on Wednesday.
The Blue & White were paced by freshman forward #Eric Dummermuth#, who had 19 points, six boards, and three steals. Two other Falcon players notched double figures in points - #Karim McFarlane# collected 15, while #Dan Jones# added 14. Jones also had a game-high 10 assists.
Missouri Baptist (5-7) played a solid game against what has been a superb Notre Dame defense this far in the 2008-09 season. A trio of Spartan guards (Dane Rawlins, Brandon Robinson, and Brett Wilson) combined to score 53 points and grab 20 rebounds. Rawlins finished with a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds) and was 8-of-11 from the floor for the game. The Spartans shot 50.9 percent (27-for-53) for the game as a team.
Missouri Baptist led Notre Dame, 33-30, at halftime, and then topped the Falcons, 37-33, in the second frame.
Notre Dame (8-2) shot 44.4 percent (24-for-54) in the game, which was the first-ever match-up between the two programs. The Falcons' 8-2 mark is the best 10-game start to a season in program history.
Notre Dame will return to their Murphy Gymnasium hardwood on Wednesday, Dec. 17, for a home tilt against Madonna (Pa.). Tip-off on Wednesday is slated for 7 p.m.
