Tim Koenig

Tim Koenig was named the third coach in the history of the Notre Dame College men's basketball program on June 5, 2013. Koenig will be entering in his seventh season with NDC in the 2019-20 campaign.

In six years at the helm of the men's basketball program, Koenig holds an overall coaching record of 93-88 (.514), including a 61-71 mark against Mountain East Conference competition.

The Falcons had a historic run in the 2018-19 season. For the first time in program history, NDC won 20 regular season games and 16 Mountain East Conference games to become the third seed in the MEC Tournament. In that tournament, they upset Fairmont State and nationally ranked No. 5 West Liberty to take home the program's first conference tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA-II National Tournament.

Following the season, Koenig was named MEC Coach of the Year. Will Vorhees became the first player in program history to earn, both, Atlantic Region Player of the Year and Mountain East Conference Player of the Year. Vorhees was also named to the First Team All-Region and First Team All-MEC. Larenz Thurman earned a spot on the First Team All-MEC.

Prior to the injury ravaged campaign of 2017-18, the Falcons showed consistent improvement under Koenig's direction, improving from 11 wins in his first season to 16 or more wins in each of the past three years. He coached NDC to 21 wins in the 2015-16 season.

The 2015-16 season also marked a highlight season for Koenig and the Falcons, who advanced all the way to the Mountain East Conference Championship game, falling short to Concord by a final score of 70-64. Koenig led the Falcons to back-to-back wins over nationally ranked No. 4 Wheeling Jesuit and No. 5 Fairmont State to advance to the MEC Championship.

In Koenig's time as head coach, the Falcons have had two All-Americans (Tyree Gaiter and Will Vorhees), 11 All-MEC players and five All-Region selectees.

Koenig served as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach from 2009 to 2011 after working under Kevin Bille as a Graduate Assistant in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. During his time as an assistant on the team, Koenig played several roles in the success of the Falcons. On the court, he aided in skill development with the guards and bigs, and assisted in practice and game preparation as well as in-game management. In addition to his duties on the court, he served as the recruiting coordinator, ran the strength and conditioning program, and aided Coach Bille in academic advising of the basketball team.

He came to NDC after spending a year away from the program. During that one year hiatus from the Falcons, Koenig served as the Director of Marketing and Admissions at St. Peter Chanel High School and was an assistant coach at Lake Erie College.

Before joining NDC, Tim served as a Varsity Assistant Coach at University School from 2005-2006. Tim also served as the Varsity Assistant Coach at Cornerstone Christian Academy during the 2004-05 season.

Koenig played baseball and basketball at Case Western Reserve University. While at Case, he was captain of the baseball team his junior and senior seasons. He was named to the Second Team All-UAA in 2006.

Koenig graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 2006. In 2009, Koenig graduated from the TEEL program at Notre Dame College, which allows him to teach grades 7-12 Biology and Chemistry.

Coach Koenig resides in Mayfield Heights with his wife Nicole and son Kyle.
