Bullpen powers baseball to road win at Malone

CANTON, Ohio – The Notre Dame College (6-21) bullpen comprised of Matthew Brown, Johnathan Cook and Johnny Anzervitz combined for a lights-out performance, allowing zero runs on six hits to go with six strikeouts and one walk allowed over five innings pitched. The NDC pen backed up starting pitcher Danny Brammer, as the Falcons went on to defeat Malone University (4-24) 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Brammer tossed three strong innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits to go with a punchout and zero walks.

The Pioneers did their damage during the bottom of the second inning, as MU scored two runs on three hits to lead 2-0.

Notre Dame responded during the top of the fifth inning with four runs on three hits, and aided by a pair of Pioneer miscues. First, Aaron Miranda poked a lead-off single, before Dylan Wimbs and Caden Gomes each reached to load the bases for NDC. Next, a pair of Pioneer errors allowed Miranda and Wimbs to cross home plate, knotting the game at 2-2. A few batters later after Carson Petrecca singled, Tyler Shadle generated a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Gomes and gifting NDC the lead 3-2. Lastly, Devon Morris capped off the frame with a two-out RBI triple (4-2).

Over the remainder of the game, the NDC bullpen locked down Malone, as Brown took over from Brammer on the bump. Brown twirled a three scoreless innings, allowing four hits, while striking out two and securing his first career win. Next, Cook toed the rubber for a scoreless inning, before Anservitz closed the deal with two innings, allowing one hit, while striking out four and walking zero to pick up the save.

Morris powered the Notre Dame College offense on the day with a 2-for-3 showing at the dish. Miranda, Petrecca, Shadle, Damion Legaspe and Jackson Smetak also added a hit on the day, as Morris and Shadle tallied the RBI.

The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 6 with a doubleheader at Mercy Health Stadium against Wheeling University.
