NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Falcons and Cavaliers jostled back-and-forth on Wednesday afternoon, as a flurry of early lead changes gave way to Walsh defeating Notre Dame 8-5 on the road.
WU started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with one run on two hits.
In the top of the second inning Notre Dame loaded the bases after
Devon Morris drew a walk,
Aaron Miranda was hit by a pitch and
Devon Minney reached on an error. Next,
Carson Petrecca poked a two-out, two-run single to right field to move NDC in front 2-1.
Walsh reclaimed the lead during the bottom of the third inning with three runs on two hits, to hold a 4-2 edge.
NDC tallied a run during the top of fifth inning on a groundout, after Miranda,
Dylan Wimbs and Minney produced singles in the frame (4-3).
In response, the Cavaliers generated a run in the fifth and sixth innings to lead 6-3.
The Falcons refused to go down without a fight, as NDC scored twice during the top of the seventh inning.
Caden Gomes began with a lead-off walk and scored few batters later on a wild pitch (6-4). With two outs in the frame, Morris ripped an RBI double down to left field, pulling NDC within one 6-5.
Lastly, Walsh posted two runs on three hits during the bottom of the eighth inning to win 8-5.
On the day, Minney and Wimbs led Notre Dame by each going 2-for-4 at the plate. Petrecca, Miranda, Morris and
Tyler Shadle also picked up a hit on the afternoon. Furthermore, Petrecca posted a team-high two RBI, while Morris registered an RBI on NDC's lone extra-base hit.
On the mound, reliever
Danny Brammer tossed an inning of scoreless relief, allowing one hit, while striking out one and walking one.
The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action on Saturday Apr. 20 at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader against West Liberty University.
