Falcons drop two at Fairmont State on Saturday

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – A valiant comeback and strong pitching performance were not enough for the Notre Dame College baseball on Saturday afternoon at Fairmont State University. In game one, NDC clawed their way back into the contest before falling 5-4. In game two, Danny Brammer tossed a commendable complete game, however the Falcons were on the wrong side of the decision, 3-0.

In the first contest, Fairmont State started the scoring with two runs on two hits during the bottom of the first inning.

Notre Dame cut the deficit in half during the top of the second inning, as Jacob Barker drew a lead-off walk before coming around to score on Damion Legaspe's RBI single to left center field (2-1).

Despite an FSU run in the third inning (3-1), NDC got back to scoring in the top of the fourth inning when Aaron Miranda jolted a solo home run to right center field (3-2).

FSU added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Falcons continued to battle until the final out. In the top of the sixth inning, Notre Dame tallied one run on two hits. First, Legaspe reached on a single, before Devon Morris generated a pinch-hit RBI double (5-3). In the top of the seventh inning, Tyler Shadle doubled and came around to score on a wild pitch, as the Falcons narrowly dropped 5-4.

Legaspe paced Notre Dame with a 2-for-3 showing at the dish. In addition, Miranda, Morris, Shadle and Jackson Smetak produced extra-base hits in the game.

On the mound, Johnny Anservitz tossed 5.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, to go with 10 strikeouts and six walks.
