CLERMONT, Fla. -- After two games were canceled last weekend, due to weather, Notre Dame College was able to pick up one game and play Queens College, on Thursday. The Falcons scored a season-high 13 runs and
Avery Robinson made her first collegiate start in the pitcher's circle, securing her first career win in a 13-0 NDC victory in five innings. Head coach
Kelsey Stopp also earned her 100th victory in the Notre Dame dugout.
The Falcons' offense was relentless, on Thursday. Senior
Katelyn DeWeese was walked to begin the game and she stole second base. Freshman
Hope Barrett singled to score the first run. Robinson walked, sophomore
Danielle Fick reached on a fielder's choice and then junior
Ella Collinsworth reached on an error, which scored another run. Still with only one out, junior
Destany Blake singled to plate a third run. Freshman
McKenna Hogan was hit by a pitch to load the bases and freshman
Kaitlyn Mazzocca walked to grab an RBI. The fifth run crossed the plate when DeWeese walked with bases loaded, in her second plate appearance of the inning.
In the top of the second inning, Robinson reached base on an error and ran to second on a wild pitch. She went to third on a fly out and came home on a groundout by Collinsworth to put NDC in front, 6-0.
The Falcons put up two more runs in the top of the third inning. Freshman
Jocelyn Quior reached on a fielder's choice and immediately showed off her speed by stealing two bases. Senior
Meadow Odum, who had just entered the game, walked. Barrett and Robinson hit back-to-back RBI singles to give NDC an 8-0 lead.
Not only did Robinson have two hits, with two RBI at the plate, she also had an incredible game in the circle. In her first career shutout, she gave up two hits.
Notre Dame did not score in the fourth inning, but then put another 5-spot on the board in the fifth. NDC had five consecutive hits in the final frame. Quior doubled in a run, Odum hit an RBI single, Barrett doubled for an RBI and then Robinson and Fick both singled. After that onslaught, the Falcons led 13-0.
Barrett finished the game with a career-high three hits, three RBI and had her first extra-base hit.
On March 8, NDC will meet Edinboro University, at 11:15 a.m., and Tiffin University, at 1:30 p.m.
