AVON, Ohio –
Carson Petrecca and
Devon Morris each flashed multi-hit, multi-RBI games in the second contest of the day, however the Notre Dame College baseball team (5-19, 3-7 MEC) fell to West Virginia State University (15-9, 8-2 MEC) on Friday afternoon, 4-0 and 6-4.
Game one featured a pitching duel with NDC starting pitcher
Johnny Anservitz tossing six innings, allowing zero earned runs (four runs), on seven hits, to go with three strikeouts.
A pair of unearned runs during the fourth and seventh innings were the difference maker for WV State in the first contest, 4-0.
In game two, the Yellow Jackets started the scoring with a 3-0 lead after the top of the second inning. However, Notre Dame responded during the home half of the second inning with two runs on two hits (3-2). First,
Carson Petrecca singled up the middle to start the inning. Now with two outs,
Devon Morris stroked a two-run single through the right side, scoring Petrecca and
Hudson Wesney after a hit by pitch.
After WVSU scored in the top of the third inning (6-2), NDC got back to work during the home half of the frame. Following a lead-off walk by
Caden Gomes,
Alexander Jones singled through the left side to move Gomes into scoring position. Tow batters later, Petrecca tallied an RBI single through the left side (6-3).
During the bottom of the fifth inning, Gomes once again started the inning with an infield single to second base. Following a fielder's choice, Jones would come around to score after Petrecca generated another RBI on an infield single to shortstop (6-4).
Both Petrecca and Morris carried the Notre Dame offense with a multi-hit, multi-RBI game in the second contest. Petrecca touted a perfect 3-for-3 showing at the dish, while Morris went 2-for-3 as both Falcons generated two RBI apiece.
