The Falcons enter conference play this week

This Week: Notre Dame College women's lacrosse will meet a pair of Mountain East Conference teams this week. The Falcons welcome Davis & Elkins College to Mueller Field, on March 27, with a start time of 3 p.m. On March 30, NDC will travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. for a meeting with West Virginia Wesleyan College, on March 30, at 12 p.m.

Records: NDC has a record of 2-7 after the non-conference portion of the schedule. Davis & Elkins has gotten off to a 9-0 start, while West Virginia Wesleyan is 4-5.

Coaches Corner: Elizabeth Mettler is in her first season leading NDC. David Pomeroy is now in his third season coaching Davis & Elkins and Hannah Lively has been on the sideline at W.Va. Wesleyan for seven seasons.

Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II top 25 poll.

Series History: Notre Dame has a 7-1 record all-time against Davis & Elkins, winning the last seven matchups. The Falcons have never lost to D&E at home (4-0). Last season, Notre Dame swept the Senators in the season series, outscoring them, 33-7. NDC has a 12-4 all-time record versus WVWC and has won the last eight meetings. The Falcons outscored the Bobcats 51-2 in a season sweep last year.

Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame dropped a pair of games to D'Youville University (11-6) and No. 11 Grand Valley State (19-4). Against D'Youville, NDC fell behind early but closed the gap to one goal, 3-2, early in the second quarter. The Falcons would close within two goals, 6-4, near the end of the third but could not come all the way back. Jovie Noack scored three goals over the two games, including two against Grand Valley State.

Despite missing the Grand Valley game, Joselyn Storm still leads the Falcons in goals (17), points (21), free position goals (6), caused turnovers (10) and draw controls (42). Grace Nickoloff (12), Gwen Bogash (11) and Jovie Noack (11) have all scored double-digit goals this year. Grace Rotter has only scored eight goals, but five of them have come off of free position shots. Annika Duncan has been the only goalie this season for NDC, saving 82 shots on target.

Noting the Senators: Davis & Elkins has gotten off to the best start in program history and set the program's longest winning streak, which was six. Last week, D&E went on the road and defeated both Thiel College (12-9) and Virginia State University (16-7). Against Thiel, the Sentors took a 3-1 lead by the beginning of the second quarter and never allowed Thiel to tie the game after that. Against Virginia State, D&E took a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. VSU would come back to tie the game at five by halftime, but D&E outscored Virginia State, 11-2, in the second half.

So far this season, D&E has outscored its opponents, 140-63, and has won 132 draws to its opponents' 97. The Senators have scored over 15 goals in four games already this season. Seven players have scored at least 12 goals, with Ari Hinton leading the way with 35. She also leads the team with 19 assists, 54 points, 10 free position goals and 51 draw controls. Zoe Mackey has 23 caused turnovers, as D&E has seven players with double-digit caused turnovers. Marissa Cuevas has started all nine games in goal, making 105 saves, which ranks 10th in the country.

Noting the Bobcats: West Virginia Wesleyan has won three of its last four games. Last week, they beat Ursuline College (26-4) and Westminster College (16-10). Against Ursuline, Erin Mobley (9) and Talia Berardo (8) combined for 17 of WVWC's 26 goals. The game against Westminster featured four ties, but a WVWC 9-0 run between the 7:35-mark in the third and the 5:24-mark in the fourth, put the Bobcats on top 16-10.

West Virginia Wesleyan has outscored its opponents, 120-95, and has scored over 20 goals in three games. Talia Berardo has 40 goals this season, which is tied for 13th in the country. She also has 10 assists, 50 points and eight free position goals. Makenzie Lewellyn leads the team with 13 assists and 59 draw controls, while Raveena Navalgund has caused 29 turnovers to lead the team. Ella Gomez has made 72 saves in nine starts.
