GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The road trip continued for the Notre Dame College baseball team (5-16, 3-5 MEC) at Glenville State University (12-11, 5-1 MEC) on Sunday afternoon. Freshman
Carson Petrecca launched his team-leading fourth home run of the season, however the Falcons fell to the Pioneers, 6-2 and 7-3.
A three-up, three-down first inning by NDC starting pitcher
Eric Parriett gave way to 5.1 innings of solid work on the mound, tallying two strikeouts.
The Pioneers opened the scoring during the bottom of the second inning, with four runs on four hits (4-0).
Notre Dame cut the deficit in half during the top of the fifth inning, as
Devon Morris drew a lead-off walk. Next,
Devon Minney singled through the left side, followed by a sacrifice bunt from
Damion Legaspe to put runners in scoring position. In the very next at-bat,
Johnny Costella produced a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Morris and getting NDC on the board (4-1). Following a
Caden Gomes walk,
Tyler Shadle generated an RBI single back up the middle to score Minney and cut the GSU lead in half (4-2).
Despite batting back into the contest with runners in scoring position during the top of the sixth, Glenville State added a pair of insurance runs during the home half of the inning to claim the contest 6-2.
In the second game of the day, GSU started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field (1-0).
NDC answered during the top of the second inning when
Dylan Wimbs was hit by a pitch, driving home Petrecca who drew a walk earlier in the frame (1-1).
GSU move back in front during the bottom of the third inning on a three-run home run to right field (4-1). Another Pioneer home run in the bottom of the fourth inning pushed the score to 7-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, Shadle drew a lead-off walk before Petrecca launched a no-doubt two-run home run over the left field wall (7-3).
Miranda paced the Falcons offensively by going 2-for-5 at the plate on the day. Minney, Petrecca, Shadle and
Alexander Jones also added a hit on the afternoon, as Petrecca touted a team-high two RBI and two runs scored.
On the mound,
Danny Brammer pitched two innings, allowing three hits and one run, while
Johnathan Cook added an inning of scoreless relief, to go with three punchouts.
The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action on Tuesday Mar. 26 at 2 p.m. when the Falcons head to Mercyhurst University.
