This Week: Notre Dame College women's lacrosse will take the field for the first time in 2024. The Falcons have traveled to Kentucky for a road non-conference matchup against Thomas More College, on Feb. 18. Start time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Schedule Change: This game was originally scheduled for Feb. 17, but was moved back one day, due to winter weather in the area.
Records: NDC has not played a game yet this season, while Thomas More lost to Lincoln Memorial University, 24-10, on Feb. 9. TMU's game against Davenport, scheduled for Feb. 16, has been postponed due to weather.
Coaches Corner: Elizabeth Mettler is in her first season as head coach at Notre Dame College. She has been on the staff as an assistant and the recruiting director since 2017. Pat Thatcher is entering his third season on the sideline at Thomas More, bringing in a record of 10-24.
Rankings: Neither of these teams are ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association top 25 poll.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame College was picked to finish second in the Mountain East Conference preseason poll. Last season, the Falcons won 10 games and went 8-2 against MEC opponents. The Falcons have won at least 10 contests every season since 2021.
Notre Dame has won at least one game in the last three MEC tournaments and has appeared in the MEC Championship every season since 2021. In the 2023 MEC Tournament, NDC defeated the University of Charleston by a score of 12-10 in the Semifinals. They lost to Frostburg State in the championship game.
Joselyn Storm returns after leading the team in goals (38) and game-winning goals (2), while also finished second on the squad with 30 groundballs and 59 draw controls. She totaled eight assists.
Grace Nickoloff ranked third on the team with 26 goals, to go along with six assists.
Annika Duncan, who started 18 games as the NDC goalkeeper in 2023, returns after saving 99 shots.
Grace London played all 19 games as a midfielder and caused 16 turnovers, along with scooping up 18 groundballs.
Following the season, London was named First Team All-MEC, Storm was named to the Second Team, while both Nickoloff and Duncan earned Honorable Mention. Duncan,
Ella Scoville (7 goals, 6 assists, 42 draw controls) and
Grace Rotter (13 goals, 5 assists, 37 draw controls) were named to the All-Freshman Team.
Noting the Saints: In a season opening loss, Thomas More was competitive throughout the first half. Lincoln Memorial pulled ahead 8-3, with 13:10 to go in the second quarter, before TMU responded with six straight goals to take a 9-8 lead at halftime. However, LMU tied the game at nine, early in the third quarter, and rattled off 15 unanswered goals in the second half in an incredible swing of momentum.
Anna Wells had three goals to lead Thomas More in that game, along with two assists. She also led the squad with five draw controls. Lincoln Memorial dominated the draw, totaling 21 to Thomas More's 14.
