Four score in double figures but Falcons fall at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, MD – Four Falcons found their way into double figures on Wednesday evening, however the Notre Dame College (4-11, 2-7 MEC) women's basketball fell on the road to Frostburg State University (8-7, 6-3 MEC), 83-68. Redshirt junior Rachel Richardson paced NDC with a season-high 20 points.
 
The Athens, Ohio native started the contest off with a three-pointer just 16 seconds into the game, moving Notre Dame ahead. A back-and-forth period saw NDC move in front once more on a layup by Cencere McDaniel at the 5:03 mark (13-11). However, Frostburg State responded with a 15-2 run over the remainder of the frame to lead 26-15 after one.
 
The Falcons got the offense going to begin the second quarter, producing a 13-7 run on three consecutive three-pointers by Kennadi Harris and Richardson to pull within four points, with 4:42 until the break (32-28). Once again, FSU closed the period strong, posting a 16-3 run to lead 48-31 at the half.
 
The Bobcats came out of halftime and stretched the advantage to 65-38, before leading 71-48 with 10 minutes to play.
 
The Falcons continued to claw for the remainder of the contest, including outscoring FSU 20-12 during the fourth quarter on 45.5-percent shooting from the floor. However, NDC fell 83-68 in the end.
 
The Notre Dame College offense saw four players score in double figures as Richardson tallied a team-high and season-high 20 points, including three, three-pointers, and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.  In addition, Harris and Lilee Carlson each totaled 12, as Karli Anker posted 10. Hayley St. John dished out a season-high three assists, alongside Richardson with three to lead the team.
 
On the glass, Noel Weathers brought down a team-high five rebounds, as Richardson corralled four.
 
Defensively, St. John swiped a game-high three steals.
 
As a team, Notre Dame shot 22-61 (36.1%) from the floor, 6-24 (25.0%) from three and 18-23 (78.3%) from the free throw line. The Falcons added 21 rebounds, eight assists and 10 steals.
 
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. as Fairmont State University enters Murphy Gymnasium.
