CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A tale of two halves for the Notre Dame College women's basketball team (4-10, 2-6 MEC) at the University of Charleston (7-7, 3-4 MEC) on Saturday afternoon, as the Falcons fell 73-53. Sophomore
Noel Weathers paced NDC with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
The Falcons came out of the gate firing, as Notre Dame went on top 15-8 with a deep three-pointer by Weathers at the 5:20 mark in the first quarter. Following a
Cencere McDaniel three-pointer, NDC owned a 20-10 advantage with 2:31 to play in the period. At the end of the first, Notre Dame led 22-15, shooting 64.3-percent from the field.
The second quarter slowed down as Notre Dame maintained a 27-21 lead midway through the period. A low-scoring period allowed
Lilee Carlson to convert a jumper right before the half, gifting NDC a 33-29 edge at the break.
Charleston gathered their footing in the third quarter, outscoring Notre Dame 26-7 in the frame, to lead 55-40 with 10 minutes to play.
UC continued to lead through the fourth quarter and despite NDC shooting 41.7-percent from the floor, the Golden Eagles took the contest 73-53.
Notre Dame was led by Weathers' team-high 15 points, alongside McDaniel with 11 and Carlson with 10. Carlson added a game-high four assists to facilitate the offense.
On the glass, Weathers tied for a game-high nine rebounds, as
Rachel Richardson corralled four. In addition, Weathers blocked a game-high three shots, while Carlson swiped a team-high three steals.
As a whole, Notre Dame shot 21-52 (40.4%) from the field, 5-17 (29.4%) from three and 6-11 (54.5%) from the free throw line. The Falcons added 28 rebounds, 12 assists, five blocks and five steals.
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action when Wednesday Jan. 17 at Frostburg State at 5:30 p.m.
