Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Action-packed draw for women's soccer in season opener at Edinboro

EDINBORO, PA – Sophomore Mia Maruna and junior Ashley Rainho score for the first time as NDC Falcons, resulting in a 2-2 draw for Notre Dame College (0-0-1) at Edinboro University (0-0-1) on Thursday evening. Both sides netted a goal in each half, as 90 minutes was not enough to separate the two sides.

The Falcons came out of the gate firing two shots in the first 10 minutes, before breaking through in the 14th minute off the foot of Maruna. Following a defensive breakup, senior Kalie Blaising dribbled the ball out of pressure and delivered a world-class through ball to Maruna down the field, putting NDC on top.

However, Edinboro found the back of the net, tying the contest in the 20th minute, as Emily Vogel scored unassisted (1-1).

The Fighting Scots would continue their offensive pressure into the break as senior goalkeeper Jordan Pasalaqua was required to make three saves before the half.

After halftime Notre Dame went back to work, tallying the go-ahead in the 48th minute via Rainho (2-1). The junior made a great run through the middle of the pitch, receiving the pass from Maruna following a bouncing ball in the midfield.

The Falcons would keep their foot on the gas, with shots on goal from Maruna and Blaising in the 53rd and 56th minutes, but the EU keeper held the score at 2-1.

Despite three second half saves by the sure handed Pasalaqua, the Fighting Scots Vogel scored once more, generating the equalizer in the 87th minute (2-2).

An even-keeled match produced nine shots from NDC, including seven on target, as EU totaled 11 shots and eight on goal. The Falcons added six saves and three corner kicks, while the Fighting Scots owned five saves and five corner kicks.

The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday Sept. 3 for the Falcons home opener. NDC welcomes Tiffin University to Mueller Field for a 1 p.m. kick off.
