NDC bested by FSU on Sunday

OBERLIN, Ohio – Five Falcons generated multi-hit efforts on Sunday afternoon, however Notre Dame College (10-32, 10-18 MEC) was bested by Frostburg State University (28-18, 20-8 MEC) by the scores of 6-2 and 5-3.
 
NDC got the scoring started in game one, as Tyler Shadle and Nate Miller traded places with a pair of doubles in the bottom of the first inning. Miller drove in Shadle with one out to gift the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.
 
Notre Dame doubled their lead during the bottom of the second inning. Damion Legaspe drew a two-out walk, before stealing second base and advancing to third on a throwing error. Next, Jordan Long singled in Legaspe to add to the Falcon lead (2-0).
 
Starting pitcher Kyle Farrell tossed a quality five innings of work for the Falcons, allowing two runs on six hits, to go along with five strikeouts and zero walks allowed.
 
Farrell received the no-decision as Frostburg State tallied runs in the fourth and sixth innings, to tie the contest at 2-2.
 
The Bobcats added four runs on two hits during the top of the seventh inning, to steal game one on Sunday, 6-2.
 
Despite the loss, Long tied a career-high by going 2-for-3 at the plate. The Dayton, Ohio native added an RBI as Miller also drove in a run for NDC.
 
In the series finale, the two sides combine for 24 hits, as Frostburg State scored first during the top of the first inning, with one run on two hits (1-0).
 
The Falcons quickly responded with two runs on three hits during the home half of the frame, to move in front 2-1. Alec Mendoza got the action started with a one-out double down the left field line. Two batters later and with two-outs in the inning, Hayden Parker roped an RBI single up the middle, tying the game at 1-1. Next, Johnny Costella legged out an infield single, before advancing to second base on a Bobcat throwing error. With two runners in scoring position, a Frostburg State balk allowed Parker to cross to home plate, giving NDC a 2-1 lead.
 
In the top of the third inning, Frostburg State strung together three runs on six hits to lead 4-2.
 
The Falcons got one run back during the home half of the third as Bill Reaume doubled home Parker after a leadoff single (4-3).
 
Relievers Garret Odey and Devin Fish combined for 4.2 innings, allowing just one run, however an FSU sacrifice fly in the sixth ensured a 5-3 victory for the Bobcats in game two.
 
Four NDC Falcons registered multi-hit efforts in the series finale, led by Mendoza's 3-for-3 outing, tying a season-high.
 
Reaume, Shadle and Parker followed suit with 2-for-4 days at the plate. Reaume notched career-highs in hits and doubles (2) during the game, as the first baseman joined Parker with runs batted in.
 
The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action on Tuesday Mar 2 for a nine-inning contest at Mercyhurst University beginning at 2 p.m.
