OBERLIN, Ohio – The Notre Dame College baseball team (10-30, 10-16 MEC) fell to Frostburg State University (26-18, 18-8 MEC) twice on Saturday afternoon, 5-1 in game one and 15-0 in game two.
In game one, starting pitcher's
Alec Mendoza and Jacob Stretch dominated the contest as the score read 0-0 into the fourth inning.
The Bobcats broke the stalemate in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run to left center (1-0).
The Falcons responded during the home half of the frame by drawing four consecutive walks. With two outs in the inning,
Johnny Costella,
Damion Legaspe and
Devon Minney loaded the bases, before
Caden Gomes earned the RBI (1-1).
FSU added runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, to win 5-1.
In the second game of the day, Frostburg State jumped on the scoreboard during the top of the first inning to lead 1-0.
Following a scoreless second inning, FSU tallied runs in the third-seventh innings to ensure a 15-0 victory.
On the day,
Nate Miller picked up a pair of hits, as Legaspe generated a double and
Tyler Shadle,
Hayden Parker and
Joe Prevesk posted base knocks.
Despite the loss, Mendoza notched his team-leading fifth complete game, the second most in the MEC.
The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday Apr. 30 for a twin-bill against Frostburg State University. The doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. at Dill Field on the campus of Oberlin College.
