NORTH CANTON, Ohio – After being held to one run in the first game of the day, Notre Dame College's offense scored three times in the game two, but Walsh University was able to win both contests. The Falcons fell in game one, 4-1, and game two, 6-3.
In game one, freshman
Danielle Fick hit an infield single to start the game. She stole second to set the Falcons up with a runner in scoring position.
Fick was active on the base paths all day, stealing one base in game one and three in game two. She now has 20 stolen bases on the season, which is fourth most in a single season in NDC history.
Back-to-back ground outs allowed Fick to move to third, and then score, to give NDC a 1-0 lead. Sophomore
Emma Gumont had the RBI.
In the bottom of the third, Walsh had runners on second and third base, with nobody out. Sophomore pitcher
Allison Weilnau almost worked out of the trouble after striking out the next two hitters, but a two-run double put the Cavaliers in front, 2-1.
The Falcons had a runner on third base in the top of the fifth inning, but did not tie the game. WU would add on in the bottom of the fifth, with a two-run home run.
Senior
Emily Marsh went 2-for-3 in the game, with a double. Weilnau struck out six batters.
Notre Dame took the early lead in game two, as well. Maciejowski tripled to lead off the top of the second inning. Two batters later, sophomore
Alyssa Wahl drove Maciejowski in with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom half of the second, Walsh had three runners on base and a bases clearing double by Kaylee Nolte put WU ahead, 3-1.
NDC had several runners on base throughout the game and were able to put a second run on the board in the top of the fifth. Fick singled to lead off the inning and stole second. Gumont then doubled to left field for another RBI and to close the gap to one run.
Walsh came right back with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 5-2. In the top of the sixth, NDC's sophomore
Destany Blake doubled and junior
Meadow Odum singled to score a run, but Walsh would score once more in the bottom of the sixth.
Gumont led the Falcons with two hits.
Notre Dame will travel to Wheeling University for a doubleheader tomorrow, beginning at 3 p.m.
