Softball drops two versus Concord

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – On Tuesday afternoon, the doubleheader between Notre Dame College and Concord University took place on Normandy Field after a couple postponements due to weather. Concord used three lopsided innings to defeat the Falcons, 4-1, in game one and, 11-2, in game two.

The pitchers for both teams were locked in to start the day. NDC's Grace Fisher allowed two base hits through three innings, while Concord's Rachael Koller allowed just one base runner through the first four innings, and did not allow a hit until fifth.

After Fisher got the first batter out in the top of the fourth, a double, a walk and a home run put CU on top, 3-0. After the homer, the Mountain Lions added another run as they totaled three additional base hits and one player was hit by a pitch.

Graduate Student Alexi Maciejowski led off with a single in the bottom of the fifth for NDC and would make her way to third base. The Falcons had a runner reach third in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh inning. To start the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Alyssa Wahl walked and then pinch-hitter Mia Cipriano doubled. Freshman Danielle Fick hit an RBI single to give Notre Dame its only run.

In relief, junior Madison Olszewski pitched 3 2/3 innings for NDC. She did not allow a run and struck out two.

In the second game of the day, Concord came right out and scored four runs, on four hits, in the top of the first inning. The Mountain Lions' first three batters hit two singles and a double.

CU added seven runs in the fourth inning, on five hits. The inning included two home runs and the Mountain Lions led 11-0.

Sophomore Ella Collinsworth singled to center field to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. Maciejowski launched a ground-rule double to left field, putting runners on second and third. Both runners advanced on the wild pitch and then an RBI groundout by Wahl gave NDC its second run.

Notre Dame will be back on the field quickly, taking on Walsh University tomorrow, at 2 and 4 p.m.
