Game Recap: Softball |

Strong pitching allows WV Wesleyan to get past NDC

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – In game one of the day, Notre Dame College and West Virginia Wesleyan College were separated by two runs until WVWC scored six times in the fourth inning to win 8-0. In the second game, neither team had a hit through three innings, but W.Va. Wesleyan would go on to win 6-0.

Freshman Danielle Fick got the Falcons started quickly with a leadoff double in the first inning. West Virginia Wesleyan would get a leadoff single in the bottom of the first and a second base hit gave the Bobcats up 1-0.

W.Va. Wesleyan added a second run in the third inning on an RBI double. And then the Bobcats scored six runs in the fourth inning, which included a grand slam and the game would end after five innings.

Kendall Stoffel (WVWC) and Grace Fisher (NDC) went head-to-head in a pitching duel, early in the game. Through three innings, the only baserunners were a pair of walks.

The Bobcats then hit two home runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead.

NDC looked to respond in the top of the fifth. With two out, sophomore Destany Blake and freshman Lindsay Breuer hit back-to-back singles before junior Meadow Odum reached on an error to load the bases. The Falcons were unable to get a run across the plate.

WVWC scored one more time in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-0 advantage.

Blake went 2-for-3 for the Falcons in the second game.

Due to weather in Elkins, W.Va., Notre Dame will stay in Buckhannon, W.Va. to play Davis & Elkins College, on April 3. The doubleheader will start at 12 p.m.
