WINTER PARK, Fla. – Redshirt sophomore
Maximilian Schweiger enjoyed a pair of hits, including capping off Notre Dame College's (0-5) four-run sixth inning, with a two-run double. Despite the Falcons big inning, Lewis University (5-5) regained control to win, 13-5.
Lewis began the contest with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first inning (2-0).
Notre Dame jumped on the board in the top of the fourth inning after
Caden Gomes led off the frame with a single and stolen base. Next,
Tyler Shadle plated Gomes to cut the LU lead in half (2-1).
The Falcons took the lead in the top half of the sixth after a pair of clutch hits. After Shadle and
Hayden Parker reached base on balls, the stage was set for a two-run double by junior
Johnny Costella (3-2).
Zachary Kakos kept the inning alive with the third walk of the inning, followed up by Schweiger's two-out, two-run double to move Notre Dame in front 5-2.
The Flyers responded during the home half of the six, with four runs on two hits. Lewis' Thomas Fox gave LU the lead once more, with a two-run single (6-5).
Lewis added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh, followed by five-spot in the bottom of the eighth inning, to win 13-5 on Tuesday afternoon.
Schweiger paced the NDC offense on the day with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate, including a double and two RBI. Costella joined Schweiger with multiple RBI (2) and an extra base hit (double) for the Falcons. Shadle and Gomes tallied the other hits for Notre Dame.
On the mound, redshirt senior
Erik Demchuk received a no-decision after throwing five innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits, while striking out two. Freshman
Garret Odey also notched a pair of punchouts in 0.2 innings of work.
The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action tomorrow, Wednesday Mar. 8 at 6 p.m. to continue the Russ Matt Invitational against Flagler College in Winter Park, Fla.
