Baseball falters on day one of Russ Matt Invitational

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Notre Dame College baseball team (0-4) kicked off their annual spring break trip with a contest against Ashland University (6-1), hosted by Rollins College. The Golden Eagles toppled the Falcons 13-0 on the day, despite 1.2 innings of scoreless relief from redshirt junior Preston Mauzy.

AU got the scoring started early with an RBI single to move ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

The Golden Eagles added three runs on three hits in the second inning to grab a 4-0 lead.

Despite trailing 4-0 after three innings, redshirt junior Johnny Anservitz posted five strikeouts.

After AU added a run in the fourth inning (5-0), Notre Dame threatened during the home half of the fifth. Reaume drew a walk, followed by a single from Devon Minney to post runners on first and second. However, the Golden Eagles worked through the jam to keep NDC off the board.

Ashland added runs during the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to ensure a 13-0 victory on Monday.

Offensively, Notre Dame was led by Bill Reaume who reached base safely three times on the day (single, two walks). He was joined by Minney, Alec Mendoza and Damion Legaspe who also recorded hits in the game.

On the mound, Anservitz sent down an aforementioned five batters, as Kyle Farrell struck out four and Mauzy tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
