Baseball falls to Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Notre Dame College baseball team (3-15), ran into Walsh University (10-11), on the road on Thursday afternoon, falling 15-4.
 
The Falcons started the scoring during the top of the first inning, tallying one run on three hits to lead 1-0. Alec Mendoza began with a leadoff single, before Preston Mauzy singled to left field two batters later. With one-on and one-away, catcher Tyler Shadle roped an RBI double to center field, scoring Mauzy and gifting NDC a 1-0 lead.
 
Notre Dame doubled their advantage in the top of the second inning after rallying from two outs and no one on base. Again, Mendoza got the action started with a double to center field, followed by an RBI single by Hayden Parker (2-0).
 
The Cavaliers took the lead during the home half of the fourth inning, moving ahead 4-2.
 
Walsh added runs during the fifth and sixth innings, to take a 15-2 lead.
 
NDC battled until the very end, picking up RBI from Parker and Mauzy during the top of the ninth inning, as the Falcons fell to the Cavaliers 15-4.

Starting pitcher Cameron Kern tossed three innings, allowing just one hit and zero runs, whiling striking out one.
 
On the day, Mendoza paced the Notre Dame College offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, including a double.
 
Parker led the Falcons with a pair of runs driven in, his fourth multi-RBI game of his career. Mauzy and Shadle followed suit with runs batted in, in the game.
 
The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action on Saturday Apr. 1 with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at West Virginia State University.
