FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Notre Dame College had to bounce back after a tough first game against Fairmont State University, and did just that with a 4-2 win in game two.
Alexi Maciejowski went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the second game to give Notre Dame a 3-1 record on the weekend.
In game one, sophomore
Emma Gumont reached on an error in the first inning, but that would be the only baserunner for NDC.
Fairmont would score five runs in the second inning, two in the third and three in the fourth for a 10-0 win in five innings. FSU's pitcher Emma Gates did not allow a hit over five innings and struck out one.
Notre Dame would bounce back in game two, behind Maciejowski and pitcher
Grace Fisher.
After striking out a career-high 13 last night, Fisher worked out of an early jam in the first inning, on Sunday. After allowing a leadoff double, the freshman struck out back-to-back batters to end the inning.
The NDC Falcons scored three runs in the top of the second inning. Freshman
Alyssa Wahl led off the inning with a single. Maciejowski hit an infield single and a run scored when sophomore
Ella Collinsworth reached on an error. A second run came home on a wild pitch and junior
Madison Olszewski singled for her first career RBI.
Fairmont State had another leadoff double in the third, and that run came home on a single by Alexa Andrews. The team's second run of the game was scored in the sixth inning, when a leadoff hit again came around to score. But that would be all Fisher allowed in a complete game victory. She had five more strikeouts.
In the top of the sixth inning, with a runner on second, Maciejowski doubled to left center to score NDC's fourth run of the game.
Notre Dame heads to Philippi, W.Va. to play Alderson Broaddus University on March 29. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
